AWAKENING THE BODY
with Gappad Theatre
Directed by: Gappad Theatre
Programme of theatre workshops exploring the potential of physicality in theatre; open to international theatre practitioners, actors and students.
Gappad is delighted to invite actors, students and theatre practitioners with an interest in physical theatre to participate in their Summer Theatre Laboratory Awakening The Body.
The Laboratory is a programme of free physical theatre workshops open for actors of different origins, led by artists from Gappad and invited guests. The sessions will be taking place on Saturdays or Sundays over the summer months in Glasgow – from early July until mid September. At the end of the sessions there will be a short presentation of participants’ etudes built throughout the period of the Laboratory.
We welcome applications from actors interested in participating both in the whole programme or just one / some sessions.
We hope to create for Scottish and international practitioners an opportunity to take risks and explore a different theatre approach and take part in an organic physical theatre encounter.
10 Saturdays or Sundays over the summer months, starting on the weekend of 5th/6th July running until mid September.
Approximately 7 hours of work a day.
A presentation for invited guests and participants will take place on the last day of the programme.
Exact space to be confirmed.
Actors, students and theatre practitioners with an interest in physical theatre.
10-days long Theatre Laboratory exploring:
– physicality (listening to the body; following the body; improvising with the body)
– voice (work on organic songs; physical work with text)
– rhythm (elements of dance, rhythmic exercises and songs)
– acrobatics (floor exercises, group and individual acrobatics)
– devising (improvisation, dynamics, impulses, building structures and etudes)
At the end of the programme we will have a sharing for invited guests presenting work of the laboratory’s regular participants (etudes built during the sessions), and Gappad’s group structure devised as a part of the closed programme.
Number of places:
12 (plus minimum 2 leaders and 2 actors from Gappad)
Participation is free to any interested actors, students or theatre practitioners, either in the whole 10 sessions or individual sessions but priority will be given to applicants declaring partaking in all or majority of the sessions. This is to promote continuity in the laboratory as the regular participants will be part of our presentation at the end of the programme. Nevertheless it doesn’t mean that you cannot apply if you are unable to commit to all 10 days – there will be extra places available for actors interested only in individual sessions.
Applicants will be selected on the basis of the application forms.
Please note that all sessions will be of practical nature.
